Learn a bit about us

Us and Our Ethos.

We are loving, devoted and ethical breeders of the beautiful and quirky breed of Miniature Dachshunds.

We take great pride in fully investing and giving our everything to our girls and their litters. We are incredibly proud of having created a reputation for going above and beyond.

Our girls live in our family home, cuddle on our laps, sleep on our sofas and sometimes in our beds! If you're a no dogs on the sofa kind of family, then we're probably

 not the breeders for you,

We feel absolutely blessed to have such a gorgeous bunch of girls who we love wholeheartedly

and consume our world.

We are:

  • Vet inspected.
  • Council licensed with 5 stars and higher standards -  SMDC/ABR118. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Ofqual Level 3 Qualified.
  • Achievers of The Kennel Club Breed Appreciation Assessment Paper.
  • Passionate advocates of IVDD Screening.
  • Health Screening Advocates via Laboklin Laboratory.
  • Breeders who will only ever breed recognised colours of the breed standard from parents who are health and temperament tested.
  • Honoured to showcase our 5***** Reviews. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Proud to raise our puppies through our Woodlandax in-house socialisation & development programme.
  • Passionate about building lifelong relationships with all of our puppies forever families.

Ethical and Trustworthy Breeders.

Our girls are:

  • KC Registered.
  • Fully temperament appraised.
  • Health tested/ Screened for Cord1 PRA.
  • Heath screened for IVDD once of an appropriate age (24 months) to minimise risks of IVDD.
  • Genetically tested to ensure they do not carry the genes to produce dilution in coat colour (Known as Blue and Isabellas etc.) which often go on to develop colour dilution alopecia. This can make them more susceptible to infection and sunburn, which in turn, may cause cancer.
  • Tested to ensure our girls aren't able to produce cross coats, (Recessive longs from smooth coats.) ensuring there is no ability of our smooth coats producing long coats.
  • Tested to ensure no double dapples are ever produced.
  • Ideally matched with complementary and exemplary stud dogs with a none to low grade of intervertebral disc calcifications. (IDC)

ONLY then if these tests are all clear, or achieve a low risk IVDD litter mating , their temperament is outstanding and they are able to improve the breed standard are they selected for breeding

once they become of

suitable age and maturity.

IVDD Risk Reducing Advocates.

The most important health concern for us is Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) and we're incredibly passionate about breeding litters that pose the lowest risk possible of being affected by this awful disease.

Dachshunds are more likely to suffer from IVDD than many other breeds. It is possible to reduce the risk of IVDD (but not prevent it altogether) by responsible breeding and good ownership lifestyle decisions which we're passionate about doing BOTH!

Breeders:

  • IVDD Screening.
  • Avoid breeding where there is a history of IVDD in the pedigree or where there are high levels of calcified discs diagnosed via IVDD screening.
  • Achieve lowest risk matings.

IVDD Screening

Our girls are IVDD screened via X-rays to do all we can to MINIMISE the risks.

Scoring of the X-rays is carried out by one of the veterinary specialists in Scandinavia (Dr Anu Lappalainen) who has worked directly with The Kennel Club for a number of years to ensure consistency of approach.

We are then informed of the “score”, which will comprise the grade and the total number of calcifications as detailed below.

Grade 0 = 0 calcifications

Grade 1 = 1-2 calcifications

Grade 2 = 3-4 calcifications

Grade 3 = 5 or more calcifications

Our Breeding Protocol

A breeding matrix shows the possible breeding combinations for IVDD screened dogs and we're committed to breeding litters from matings achieving the "Green" Lowest Risk Category.

Green: The lowest risk of breeding dogs affected by IVDD.

Amber: A higher risk of producing puppies that may grow up to be affected by IVDD.

Red: A mating which has a high risk of producing puppies that may grow up to be affected by IVDD. These matings are not recommended.

Producing puppies affected by IVDD has a serious impact on their health and welfare.

Owners:

  • Keep your Dachshund fit and healthy.
  • Adopt a mixed regime of on and off-lead exercise appropriate for your puppies age wearing an appropriate and well fitted collar.
  • Adopt the 5 minute rule per month of age exercise rule.
  • Feed a well-balanced diet, appropriate to your Dachshund's life-stage.
  • Be aware of your Dachshunds Body Condition Score and what an ideal condition looks like.
  • Allow your Dachshund to mature fully (24 months) before considering neutering (unless there is a strong health reason to do this before.
